Downtown is the place to be this weekend! Just around the corner from the West End, our Downtown friends will be hosting the popular Dallas Children’s Health℠ Holiday Parade. This special parade is in its 27th year, and always excites the crowd with a special Dallas hometown feel. The festivities happen Saturday, December 6 at 10:00 a.m. and is the official Downtown kick off to the holiday season. This year Children’s is also excited to announce a new name for the parade – The Dallas Children’s Health Holiday Parade, starting a new tradition for years to come.
Here is a glimpse at the Parade route
The parade continues to be popular with young and old and in the past has featured many popular local marching bands, beloved citizens and famous Dallasites, whimsical balloon characters of popular figures, delightful holiday floats and this year promises to be no different.
The parade tradition started on December 3, 1988, when the employees of The Adolphus Hotel and Children’s Hospital decided they wanted to give back to the community. A parade was designed with the Macy’s Day parade in mind. To everyones surprise, there was a crowd of 70,000 enthusiastic children and their family members cheering them on. The team left knowing that a true Texas Tradition had been born, christening the parade our own “Miracle on Commerce Street.”
Today the parade is one of the largest parades in the country, drawing a crowd of more than 400,000 spectators. In addition, the parade is syndicated throughout the United States to more than 100 million homes. The parade is a holiday tradition for thousands of families throughout North Texas and coast-to-coast.
